Hand carved & painted folk art duck pair
A matched pair of hand-carved wooden ducks, each uniquely painted in a stylized folk art palette. These pieces strongly exhibit characteristics of Mexican folk art wood carving, especially mid-20th century (c. 1950s–1970s). There is a tradition in Mexico (and some Latin American countries) of carving animals in local hardwoods (e.g. copal, mahogany) and then painting them with simplified decorative motifs. The painted designs emphasize simplified feathers, concentric lines, and accent eyes—common in folk art meant to echo the natural plumage in a stylized manner rather than hyperrealism.
Condition: Both ducks appear in good vintage condition: their carvings are intact without major fractures, and the paint shows expected wear (fading, minor chips) consistent with age. Some surface scratches or light weathering may be present.
As decorative folk art from Mexico or Latin America, such pieces are moderately collectible—especially as pairs or in good painterly condition. Their more stylized, decorative nature (vs. hunting decoys) gives them appeal for interior display collectors of ethnic or mid-century global folk art.
Dimensions: The broader duck is approx. 13.5 cm high × 18 cm wide × 8 cm deep; the narrower duck is about 10 cm high × 18 cm wide × 2.5 cm deep.
