A finely hand-carved wooden centerpiece bowl made from African kiaat (Pterocarpus angolensis), renowned for its warm golden grain, silky smooth texture, and durability. The bowl is decorated with a relief carving of an elephant, symbol of Africa’s wildlife, and marked with the carved initials “PTA”, denoting Pretoria, South Africa – a popular safari-era souvenir destination during the mid-20th century. With its elongated oval shape and organic grain pattern, this piece combines traditional craftsmanship with authentic African character. It was most likely made in the 1960s–80s, when kiaat carving was flourishing in South Africa as part of the tourist trade. This bowl serves both as a functional centerpiece and a collectible safari-era artifact, reflecting African artistry and culture. Condition: Vintage, beautifully preserved with natural patina
