These exquisite Delft polychrome ceramic jugs are more than just decorative items; they are unique historical pieces showcasing Dutch craftsmanship. Each jug features a hand-painted depiction of significant Dutch locations: Zaandam – Zaanse Schanss and Medemblik – Kasteel Radboud. These custom-made ceramics were often produced for businesses, bars, and landmarks, making them rare collector’s items.

Zaandam – Zaanse Schans

Zaanse Schans is one of the most famous historic areas in the Netherlands, located near the town of Zaandam. This open-air heritage village is known for its beautifully preserved 17th–18th century wooden houses, traditional windmills, and artisan workshops. During the Dutch Golden Age, the Zaan region was one of the earliest industrial areas in Europe, filled with windmills used for sawing timber, grinding spices, producing oils, and processing pigments. Today Zaanse Schans is considered a living museum of Dutch history and craftsmanship and is one of the most recognizable cultural landscapes in the country.

Medemblik – Kasteel Radboud

The second bottle depicts Kasteel Radboud, a medieval castle located in the historic town of Medemblik on the shores of the IJsselmeer. The castle was built in the 13th century by Count Floris V of Holland as part of a chain of fortifications intended to control and defend the region. Over the centuries it served as a defensive stronghold, administrative center, and later a museum. Today Kasteel Radboud is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in North Holland and remains an important historical landmark connected to the early political development of the Dutch provinces.

The underside of one bottle bears the factory mark “Polychroom – Hand Painted – Holland.” Polychroom ceramics were widely produced in the mid-20th century, especially during the 1950s–1970s, when decorative Dutch souvenir ceramics became popular among travelers and collectors.
