18th Century Delft Polychrome Bird Plate, Antique Dutch Hand Painted Faience, Floral Folk Art Wall Dish, Baroque European Interior Decor

A striking survivor of the Dutch decorative pottery tradition, this colourful bird plate brings the charm of an old European collection to a traditional, eclectic or Baroque-inspired interior. Its lively composition and rich polychrome palette make it an appealing accent for a plate wall, an antique cabinet or a curated collection of historic ceramics.

The plate is consistent with 18th-century Dutch Delft polychrome faience, reflecting the period’s characteristic use of cobalt blue, yellow, green and reddish tones in decorative bird and floral designs. The absence of a maker’s mark does not, in itself, rule out an 18th-century origin, as not every piece of Delftware was marked, particularly among more commonly produced domestic wares. Elaborately personalised, commissioned or particularly distinctive pieces could be signed or marked, while many everyday examples remained unmarked. Plates of this kind were produced for practical use as well as decoration, and their relatively widespread production helps explain why comparable examples have survived to the present day.
